Spoiler alert!!  Note, this is a steamy story. The bedroom door is most definitely not closed!

Enchanting Aurora: She needs to lose her maidenly innocence, he needs to fulfill a wicked challenge. Will this short term arrangement give them both more than they bargained for?

Usually I write traditional sweet regencies, sometimes referred to as "clean."  This, quite frankly, is what I like to read, using my own imagination to create the steps following the kiss. But this time, I wrote them down.

If you don't like steamy stories, find one of my sweet books instead. Here is what motivated me. Mrs. Aurora Williams turned out to be a character I couldn't discard. She lingered in my head and my muse kept urging her on. I simply had to take on her story. It seems that the unfortunate Miss Aurora Benson went to Brussels in 1815 and met soldier Charles Williams. Her uncle managed the marriage settlements and they were set to marry when suddenly, a battle loomed. Charles and Aurora were wed immediately, but he was called away the moment the ceremony was complete. Instead of a wedding night, Aurora got a hasty kiss on the cheek, and in the same movement, Charles mounted his  horse and was off, never to return. She was left a widow and a virgin.
All this was her back story. Now, as she contemplated marrying again, Aurora wished to learn what the marriage act was. How could she find out? There was only one way to complete her knowledge.
So you see why I had to follow Aurora's initiation into intimacy with a man. Luckily, Blake Kingsley turned out to be the perfect teacher. Following every step of her education turned out to be a pleasure for me. I hope you will enjoy her journey too. And his!
What is your opinion on the level of heat in your favorite stories?

I vote for steamy, not erotica, but the steamier the better!

That's interesting, Victoria! I'm just the opposite. Most of my books are in the sensual range, but my Duke of Shadows turned out unexpectedly to have a hero who was SO honor-bound he would not even think about taking that step before marriage. It was not his way. That quite surprised me. I figured it'd be the same, but nope, not for Luke! LOL. Characters do the darnedest things sometimes. Congrats on your new release! ~ Gaelen :)

Fascinating...I wish I could always cntrol my characters, but they do the darnedest things for sure. I am in the middle of a new novella and I haven't figured out whether either the h/h will be lusty or not. They'll eventually reveal themselves!!

It all depends on the book. Sometimes the chemistry of the characters makes a love scene necessary, but just as often a closed bedroom door works as well. I've written both kinds, and I got tired of writing sexy scenes after a while. Now, when for whatever reason I think a sexy bit is necessary, I abbreviate it quite a lot. And if I look back on what I've read over the years, my favorite romances/mysteries/romantic adventures don't usually have steamy scenes in them. I think this is because when it comes right down to it, I'm far more interested in the romantic relationship as a whole and can just assume the sex was pleasurable and helped deepen it.

You raise an interesting issue -- I find the loves scenes difficut to write -- and read for that matter. We work so hard to create the ambiance for the scene and then the tangled limbs or the silly terms we use -- or the actual namesof the parts -- threaten to grab a reader right out of the story. Plus, as you say, using one's own imagination to set the scene is far more interesting in the long run!! Thanks for commenting!

I like the heat to fit the story. Just like people, attitudes and circumstance dictate our choices. I don't like gratuitous sex scenes that are written because someone said romances have to have them, but I don't object to more explicit bedrooom (or other venue) scenes that reflect the development of the characters or their stories. Like everything else, it has to fit the story and move it through the character arc.

I agree with you -- whatever fits the story. I hope Aurora's story following her experience with Blake is indeed fitting. I am writing a story now, a novella, and I haven't reached the point at which I will have to listen to the characters decide how "far" to go. We shall see!! Thanks for commenting.
