Planning a Week in Britain

My DH and I are spending almost two weeks in the Czech Republic and Germany, followed by a week in England, arriving at Heathrow on a Wednesday and departing on Thursday of the next week.  What delights await?
We are staying near the British Library and the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel, left.  So high our list will be an exploration of the newly restored Victorian hotel and a bit of time in the BL, though I'm afraid I won't have time to renew my Reader's Card this year.

I took a summer course at Oxford University a few years ago, and I have always wanted to visit Cambridge too -- thus "completing" my education (LOL).  Here's the King's College Chapel...

I hope to include a visit to the Fitzwilliam Museum...their collections are amazing.  More info here:

Enjoy browsing.

After Cambridge, we hope to head over to Norfolk to see Houghton Hall, built by Sir Robert Walpole.  They are showing a special exhibition this summer of the paintings Walpole collected which were later sold by an heir to Catherine the Great.  See more here.

Next, we will visit Holkham Hall, not far from Houghton, where Coke of Norfolk experimented with agricultural improvements and spread the accomplishments of all British farmers at his annual sheep shearings. More info:

If we have any energy left when we return to London, there are a multitude of interesting sites I have on the agenda.  Here is the Wellington Arch and Apsley House on the right.  Though I have visited with blog partner Kristine Hughes, I don't think I have introduced my husband to the delights of the Duke of Wellington's collections.  See more here:

WE also intend to visit this lovely house in Dover Street to see the exhibition at Mallett Antiques.  More information is here:

It looks like a brilliant exhibition.

Now all I need is a few spurts of superhuman energy!  We leave soon and I will report back in late July...
