Last March I left warm, sunny Florida to fly to New York City to cross the North Atlantic with Kristine Hughes on the Queen Mary Two. Doesn't everyone want to be out there on the sea in winter? We were reassured by Cunard that the ship was an Ocean Liner, specially built for the purpose, and after watching a you-tube video on its construction and launch in 2004, we decided they knew what they were doing...and events definitely fulfilled our confidence. Even on days of high winds and rough waves, the ship was steady. Below, Manhattan from the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal where we boarded; In the foreground, Governors Island. Above, Queen Mary Two. Below, our welcome to the ship, and a familiar sign at the Pub. Please click on the images for the full photo. Above, beginning our voyage to Southampton just after sunset, and clearing by just a little bit, the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge. Below, our stateroom, aka suite, and the Chart Room, another of many bars, enough to satisfy the thirst indeed. Above, the Library, and an illustration of the delicious and perfectly-served cuisine. Other than lounging around, reading, enjoying the many venues for imbibing, and napping, we did almost nothing for the entire seven days, just relaxed, occasionally outside, below. Right, greeted in Southampton by Spring daffodils. Queen Mary Two, NYC to Southampton, UK.
